If you know the signs of serious engine problems you can prevent yourself from a breakdown & your vehicle sustaining serious damage.

It is far better to get your engine checked sooner rather than later if you think there’s a problem.

What are the signs of serious engine problems?

Think you might have a problem with your engine?  Make sure you know what to look for so you can get your car fixed before you’re faced with an even bigger repair!

Your Vehicle is Overheating

A car that keeps overheating is an indication that there’s a problem with your engine’s cooling system.  If this is the case it could be because of a burnt out radiator, problematic water pump or broken thermostat.

Your Vehicle Makes Unusual Noises

Any new or unusual noises you notice could be because of a serious problem in your engine.  If you notice any strange noises with your vehicle you should get it checked by a mechanic as soon as possible.  Noises such as grinding or vibrating sounds can be due to a worn timing belt.  If your timing belt breaks while the vehicle is running it could cause serious damage to your engine and cost a lot of money to repair.

Your Vehicle Keeps Stalling

If your car stalls in the middle of the road, not only is it a major safety issue but it could suggest a problem with your engine or transmission.  Stalling or hesitation can often be caused by a problem with your fuel line or filter & could be a sign of problems with your engine.

Your Engine is Smoking

If your engine produces smoke or steam you most likely have a problem which should be looked at by a mechanic.

Smoke coming from your engine can be an indication of worn cylinders/gaskets or a worn crankcase.  Smoke can also be a sign that you have used the incorrect oil, which is a common cause of engine problems.

Your Vehicle Has Lost Power

You may notice your car losing power up hills, or getting up to speed.  This could be due to wear in your engine and may come down to a simple fix, or in some cases worse.  Either way you should get your engine checked if the problem remains consistent.

If you notice any of these problems with your vehicle, don’t delay in taking it to your nearest auto repair shop.
